"My love for the use of beeswax and encaustic implementation began as a Wisconsin beekeeper; I was searching for a way to honor the beautiful wax that is rendered when harvesting the honey. I came upon this ancient art form and fell hopelessly in love. There are endless processes with which to express oneself using beeswax: painting, mixed-media, collaging, three-dimensional works, photography and more. I find that I never run out of ideas and creative venues with these natural, organic materials to express my work. TL
Questions about encaustic paintingsDisplay and Care for Your Encaustic Painting
Encaustic art is one of the most durable of all artist mediums and will maintain its composition for many years. Although it has a high archival rating, encaustic artwork does require special care. Question #1 - Probably the most asked, Will it melt? The answer is yes, it will, but know that the melting point for encaustic is 155 degrees Fahrenheit, as would be the same for many other forms of art. Encaustic paintings should be kept ideally at a room temperature of 50-80 degrees. As with all artwork, display in areas of indirect sunlight. Also avoid wall areas that are directly above heaters or too close to incandescent lighting. Question #2 - What maintenance is required? Encaustic paintings that have been created recently (within the past year) will go through a curing process and experience a maturity called "bloom." This is a hazy, cloudy look that appears on the surface of any new encaustic painting. It is an oxidization period as everything settles within the elements. To regain the luminosity and sheen, gently rub the surface first with the palm of your hand: there is enough oil in your system to buff the surface. You can also use a clean, soft chamois and rub in a circular motion, being careful not to scratch the surface. Question #3 - What payment and shipping terms do you have? We can accept PayPal, personal check or all major credits. Shipping will be via USPS and your package will be fully insured for the value of the contents. We pay special care to shipping and have not had any problems with USPS. If you prefer another shipping method, we will be happy to accommodate you. |
